River is Mud
05:48
|
|||
It's loose lips and big hips all the way around.
It's a long way up but an easy slide down-
Through your hoop skirts, til my love hurts and i'm as dirty as a rug.
Ain't it funny honey, what you'll do for a buck
The river is full of mud
take my advice and get back to the woods
the river is full of mud
it's gonna take a whole lot of soap now
just to clean it up
Who says I won't,
who does and who don't when there ain't nobody else around?
It might be out and out murder
but the dead don't make no sound.
It's a little nip and bit by bit you'll be tripping down that wire.
You come in here a kid but you're going out a liar.
The river is full of mud
take my advice and get back to the woods
the river is full of mud
it's gonna take a whole lot of soap now
just to clean it up
The truth of the matter is it all looks good in a tight, tight sweater, baby.
There ain't no angels. Ain't no devils.
It's just you and me at home.
Ain't it scary baby, when you're all alone?
Who's to blame?
It's a crying shame with a whole of style-
when they stick it in you, baby,
with a great big smile.
It's a feeling, it's a fever and you won't deny it.
Pretty soon, we're all gonna try it ...
The river is full of mud
take my advice and get back to the woods
the river is full of mud
it's gonna take a whole lot of soap now
just to clean it up

Summer Girl
03:49
|
|||
Days went by like nothing really mattered
we lived and died and our ashes were scattered
but oh my girlfriend when i see you in the morning rain
i always sing your favorite song again
this is the last song of summer
where the blue skies meet blue water
this is the twilight of wonder
and it really is such a bummer
i don't ever want to say goodbye to my summer girl
years went by and the sun grew brighter
the world spun dry and the plains grew wider
but oh my girlfriend when i kiss you in the evening breeze
worlds collide and it feels so good to breathe
this is the last song of summer
where the blue skies meet blue water
this is the twilight of wonder
and it really is such a bummer
i don't ever want to say goodbye to my summer girl
ooh summer
ooh summer girl

Yeah Baby Yeah
04:31
|
|||
I met you swimming down at the stormy side of the lake
swimming in a pool of people
you couldn't even take a break
when the sun went down you went under
and i was afraid
always offering you a hand
you just couldn't take
and the car was such a long way down the road
you talk about the weather like you heard it all before
you just say
yeah yeah, baby, yeah
i will always forgive you
even if i can't forget
see, the bus around the corner
just hadn't come around yet
and i knew there was a ride there
if i could get up the fare
but when you looked in my pocket
there wasn't a dime in there
and the car was such a long way down the road
you talk about the weather like you heard it all before
you just say
yeah yeah, baby, yeah
oh my angel
she's so high
you couldn't reach her
if you try
on the bed
she looks so sweet
passing by you
in her dreams
i was talking with her
an easy conversation
she went looking for a road map
or at least her telephone
it was a long walk home
playing tag with desperation
it was a carnival ride
just kept playing all night long
and the car was such a long way
up the road
you talk about the weather
like you heard it all before
yeah yeah, baby yeah

Drowning
04:28
|
|||
Sometimes it takes a little bit more than i have to give
Sometimes it flickers and the light grows dim
Still I'm so sad to see the sunrise everytime you go
I'll just be here waiting in the ocean drowning
because I like the quiet in the sea that you are
I don't feel like swimming, I'm drinking the water
I've got forever, what is it that you want
Water rushing down a mountain
Time is a runaway train
Changes keep changing
Everything passes away
And I don't want to have to see it -
The day without your smile
I'll just be here waiting in the ocean drowning
because I like the quiet in the sea that you are
I don't feel like swimming, I'm drinking the water
I've got forever, what is it that you want
I feel much better in the rain
it's getting harder to explain
Lately, the night's so lonely, it drives me from my bed
Empty, my soul is crying and my eyes see nothing
And I don't want to be sleeping if I can't dream of you
I'll just be here waiting in the ocean drowning
because I like the quiet in the sea that you are
I don't feel like swimming, I'm drinking the water
I've got forever, what is it that you want

Down To The Road
05:14
|
|||
while in these lost days of sleep
if the circles that you keep spinning were to freeze
and time had gotten by you on a breeze
left you reaching for the sky from your knees
don't linger in the middle of things
can you fly on imaginary wings
or is it realer for you if you crawl
along the base of imaginary walls
take it down to the road
take it down to the road
carry what you can carry
and leave the rest alone
you've reached a moment that wasn't planned
and you don't understand your heart
and with your hands you condemn
regret and you blame the fire
while keeping warm by the flame
holding on to the little that you know
refusing to let children grow
much taller than you it seems
just the dreams of your dreams
take it down to the road
take it down to the road
carry what you can carry
and leave the rest alone
be thankful that you got just a little bit
a little bit more than a lot of people need to get
you don't need much of anything else
a little courage, a little spirit
you can't buy it with money
you can't take it like a little pill
if you ain't got it by now
maybe you never will
looking into the mirror what you gonna see
you you you
me me me
be thankful just a little bit
be thankful just a little bit

Talk of the Town
03:43
|
|||
I walk down the street
treading whispers underneath
it's barely seven thirty
how'd my feet get so dirty
I hear voices in the hallway
looking for connection
get out of my way
I've got a bad sense of direction
I walk downtown
kicking words all around
the dust chokes the air
i can't breathe anywhere
windows black and my eyes are going blind
the only thing i know is that i think i might've lost my mind
I've been dragged down into the talk of the town
can't get it up cause it keeps coming down
"By the way ..." and "Did you hear?"
take a swing to clear the air
get knocked down, do your best
the elephant is on your chest
he's a lover for your life
i swear he wants your soul
just watch him as he laughs
he's got it all under control
You've been dragged down into the talk of the town
can't get it up cause it keeps coming down
Engine groans in the evening heat
clapping spoons out in the street
this and that ... and so and so
blah blah on and on they go
there's a lady laughing with cheese stuck in her teeth
her breath fills the halls and the foreigners can't get no sleep
They've been dragged down into the talk of the town
can't get it up cause it keeps coming down

Unseen Stranger
03:14
|
|||
Walls fall down
words can't defend a heart from hate
but despite the unkind things
a new day finally begins
at the start of the end
the unseen stranger
moves in and out of danger
and promises of pain
losers never win
liars never trust their heart
especially when they must
a coward never knows a friend
at the start of the end
the unseen stranger
moves in and out of danger
and promises of pain
from miles in the sky
the rain falls on her sleeve
she's hiding in plain sight
the last leaf on the tree
stand aside,
she waits for me
at the start of the end
the unseen stranger
moves in and out of danger
and promises of pain

Man With No Country
04:14
|
|||
there's rain in my veins
i've nothing to explain
i'm a drifter on a county road
in a town that has no name
i might stop here for the evening
i might stay here for a while
but nothing here will stop me
when its time to turn a mile
i don't care which way i'm going
i might not get there anyway
i'm a man without a country
in a town that has no name
i am a stranger
i'm a stranger among friends
on the road from st ronnie
i have walked without end
i am nobody's brother
i have no native tongue
my past is made of rust
my future's on the run
i'm a blur out on the shoulder
my pockets are full of sand
i'm a man without a country
you probably won't see me again
have mercy lord have mercy
i'm a man with no control
helpless like a baby
going down the road i go
cold wind is blowing
the sun is sinking low
if i live to see tomorrow
will i find my way back home
in the winds of choctaw county
there's the echo of a life
a man without a conscience
an address or a wife
and you'd better keep on moving
there's a hellhound on the loose
a ghost with many faces
tonight he looks like you
i ain't your friend
i ain't your foe
i'm barely nothing to you now
just some stranger on a county road
no need to slow down
a man without a country
barely makes a sound

Follow the Sun
03:49
|
|||
I was raised catholic in a north jersey town
so many people from all over the world
slovak and spanish west indies and me
before i learned to walk i started chasing girls
i'm living proof life goes on
follow the sun
Then I went to high school south of the bridge
a town of white faces stuffed with cigarettes
I found out about fear, drank whisky on the tracks
i learned about hate, it never forgets
don't forget life goes on
follow the sun
Then i moved north to be by myself
next thing i knew i was living out west
lucky to stay or too stuck to leave
my head in the wind banging the breeze
wearing the wind life goes on
follow the sun
People are crazy
it's over too soon
follow the sunshine
or bark at the moon
take it or leave it
whoever you are
within and without you
life goes on
I've grown older by a day
I've got a girlfriend by the bay
fire in the west at the end of the road
and when the sun sets the sky explodes
at the end of the day life goes on
follow the sun

30 Year Hangover
03:30
|
|||
I was hiding today from the new blues that hit me
when I was trying to lose yesterday's blues last night.
What can you say to someone who never listens?
Anything - what's on your mind?
I got a 30 year hangover
I gave up getting over
from the first time I got drunk in Ronnie's basement
Watching BB's ricochet, burning bridges in our brains
and for 3 days it was the oil of coca cola
Is the glass half full or am I half empty?
How much is too much to pay?
What do you have that won't be taken from you?
How much love do you drive away?
I got a 30 year hangover
I gave up getting over
from the first time I got drunk in Ronnie's basement
Watching BB's ricochet, burning bridges in our brains
and for 3 days it was the oil of coca cola
I was looking up today, staring at a rainbow,
hidden in the circus of the clouds-
on a plate of rainy faces, the scarves of pretty silk
being pulled from the sleeve of a clown
I got a 30 year hangover
I gave up getting over
from the first time I got drunk in Ronnie's basement
Watching BB's ricochet, burning bridges in our brains
and for 3 days it was the oil of coca cola
